Witness hills

The Pliocene era (5.4 to 2.4 million years ago) in the Pannonian inland waters has been fully silted and dried up, leaving behind thick sediment. During this period broke up the bulk of volcanoes in the Balaton Upland, and then there was a few million years of pause. In the subsequent period, the Pleistocene (2.4 million, 10,000 years ago at the age of ice ages), climatic conditions practically all the thick sediments of the Pannonian destroyed, only the hard basalt covered parts were preserved, so that eventually emerged out of surroundings. Although the witness Hill name is nothing more than to preserve the original Pliocene surfaces, its meaning is more diverse. The magma consists of rocks from the earlier times helping to see the deeper surface of the earth.
