Valtrighetta malga and meadows

Malga Valtrighetta is one of the several still used Trentino malgas, mountain dairies for the milk processing.

For centuries the traditional activity of taking cattle to mountain pastures during summer has been the main means of support for people, as witnessed by the casàre, today also called malgas (mountain dairies for the milk processing), whose presence on the Lagorai massif dates back to the 14th century. In the 19th century the malga structure met an evolution: to the building destined to the dairy production a big cattle shed was added, called barco, which allowed to optimize the fields fertilization and to give a shelter to the cattle. Malga Valtrighetta is placed along the road going to the Manghen Pass, at an altitude of 1433 m. The malga, which was totally restructured in 2001, is characterised by a single all-encompassing building; the rooms dedicated to accommodation and cooking, as well as the room for the dairy production, are on the right, while on the left there is the cattle shed, where cows are gathered to be milked; during the night the cattle is put in an external stockyard.

Lagorai Ecomuseum

Malga Valtrighetta still mantains its secular function of summer meadow and shed for cattle, as well its activity of fresh milk production. Regional importance.

Potential usability

The malga is working from the 5th of June to the 30th of September; it still produces and sells its dairy products, being an interesting destination for tourist visits as well as for local residents, who usually buy its products. It's also an optimal point of start for excursions on the Lagorai massif.
