The caves of Stiffe reopened to public on the 25th of June

Reopening of Stiffe's caves that have been closed for 2 years due to the damages caused by the earthquake that hit the Province of l'Aquila, Abruzzo region, on the 6th of April 2009. A ceremony took place while free guided tours have been organized to increase the tourism interest toward this area.

Stiffe's caves are located in San Demetrio ne' Vestini a municipality part of the Mountain Community Sirentina. Stiffe's caves are subterranean limestone caverns carved by time and  groundwater. For the entire territory and local communities they represent a unique tourism attractor that for the last  2 years has been inaccessible due to the damages caused by the earthquake. The restoration activities  and the implemented security measures allowed local tourism providers and actors to rely on this resource for this year tourism season.
